About

A note from the founder about why this space exists and who it is for.

Lindsay Lupi

I am a NYC theater educator, music director, pianist, fitness enthusiast and mentor, mom of two, and breast cancer survivor. Most of my life has been dedicated to creating safe spaces for young people to express themselves through music and theater.

It has always mattered to me that the spaces I create are full of acceptance, support, and love. After my breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2019, I realized that the same kinds of spaces I created for my students didn’t necessarily exist for me.

I didn’t have time to run to therapy every day or disappear into some perfect healing routine. So I kept wondering: how can I create a safe space for people on the breast cancer journey that doesn’t take too much time, can be accessed at all hours, and leaves room for real expression? That question became More Than Breast Cancer.

This space exists for the in-between.

The messy parts.

The quiet parts.

The life part.

So many breast cancer sites with personal stories on them are the same. Clean. Stark. Clinical. Stories that move predictably from diagnosis to treatment to reconstruction.

But what about the first time having sex after a double mastectomy? What about talking with your kids about chemo in the middle of ordinary life? What about walking into work with your brand-new chest and feeling like the elephant in the room?

This is a home for any story you want to share: sweet, tumultuous, devastating, hilarious, or something that seems very simple. A journal entry. A poem. A letter you want to write and not send.

You don’t have to start your own blog or make a big announcement. You can write under your real name or submit anonymously. You can write for yourself, and also for the next person who lands here needing to know they are not alone.

I am more than breast cancer. And so are you.
